New Gospel of Matthew Commentary
My father-in-law Matt Wooldey just released a book with IVP called “The Gospel of Matthew: God With Us”. This is the second volume of their new Resonate commentary series. The strength of this new series is that it is written by pastoral practitioners who collaborate closely with theologians to create works that combine scholarship with practical application, bridging the gap between what matters to academics and what matters to real people.
Reading this commentary, I never have to ask, “so what?” Matt carefully and theologically gets to the heart of the Gospel and to the heart of the reader. His story-telling and writing style is captivating and beautiful, bringing the reality of God’s presence with us through Jesus to a point of intersection with my life. It is so refreshing to read a commentary that preaches to me.
And in case you think I may be a bit biased, you can check out this alternate cover I did of the book to see that I have the absolute freedom to recommend and to spoof! Seriously though, Matt is one of my favorite preachers and writers and this book is a must have for pastors and parishioners alike.
